Starbase 11 was a planet-based facility constructed on a Class M planet.[1] In 2208, the base was commanded by Commodore José Mendez,[1] who succeeded Commodore L.T. Stone.[2] On Stardate 2947.3, Captain James T. Kirk of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 was held for court martial at Starbase 11, accused of negligence and perjury in the death of Lieutenant Commander Ben Finney, but charges were dropped when Finney was discovered to be alive and behind the plot to frame Kirk.[2] Following a training accident that exposed him to delta radiation and left him a paraplegic, Fleet Captain Christopher Pike was kept at Starbase 11's hospital facility for several months before he was abducted by Lieutenant Commander Spock, also of the Enterprise, and taken to Talos IV, a six-day journey at the ship's maximum warp.[1]
