The Alpha Leonis system was also known as Regulus.[1] The system had at least five planets, including Regulus V.[3] Regulus was a blue-white main sequence star, 160 times brighter than Sol, and was located 85 light years from that star. Regulus was accompanied by a small, faint binary system, of which the brighter star was a red dwarf,[4] and the dimmer star a K-type[1] dwarf.[4]
In 2254, one of the possibilities that Captain Christopher Pike entertained as an option beyond Starfleet was to go into business on Regulus.[5] Prior to the 24th century, the region was plagued by Gatherer raids. On Stardate 43421.9, a routine shipment of medical supplies was to be picked up at nearby Starbase 343 by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D.[6]
