This unnamed officer was assigned as an ensign to the Command Division aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in 2266. On Stardate 1512.2, he paused in the corridor to listen to an announcement from Captain Kirk when the ship made first contact with the First Federation.[1] When the ship confronted a Romulan Bird of Prey that crossed the Neutral Zone and destroyed several Earth Outposts on Stardate 1709.2, he was first seen pausing to listen to an announcement by Captain Kirk and Commander Spock,[2] then later filled in at the navigation station while on duty on the bridge.[3] While the ship searched for the missing Shuttlecraft Galileo at Murasaki 312 on Stardate 2821.5, the ensign delivered several reports on microtapes to Captain Kirk.[4] The ensign paused in the corridor to listen to an announcement by Commander Spock[2] when the ship traveled to Talos IV on Stardate 3012.4.[5] On Stardate 3417.3, he had been promoted to lieutenant, and was among the first members of the crew to be infected by spores from pod plants that were discovered on Omicron Ceti III. He was initially on the surface of the planet, gathering materials to be beamed up to the ship, then was seen again later transporting back down to the surface when the entire crew — save Captain Kirk — had been infected.[6]
