Tonsils were an organ located at the back of the throat in Humans. While medical technology could accomplish "almost anything," on Stardate 1513.1, Dr. McCoy still insisted on performing visual examinations of his patients, stating that he would "still put my trust in a healthy set of tonsils."[1] This was somewhat ironic, as he had long since had his own removed, though the regenerative effects of the pod plant spores encountered on Omicron Ceti III caused his tonsils to grow back.[2]
