The Federation Starship Lafayette was constructed as a Bonhomme Richard class (a variant of the Constitution class) cruiser. Construction was authorized by the Starfleet Appropriation of Stardate 3220,^[1] and the ship was commissioned circa 2194. Like the rest of the class, the Lafayette served in combat during the Four Years War.^[2] Nearly all of the Bonhomme Richard class vessels that survived the war, including the Lafayette, were decommissioned and destroyed in weapons testing as part of Star Fleet's postwar demilitarization.^[2]
