Pavel Andreievich[2] Chekov[3] was born on 6 March 2186[1][4] the only child[5] of Andrei[2] and Catherine Chekov[4] of Moscow,[4] Russia, on Earth.[3]

Chekov enrolled at Star Fleet Academy in 2198. While at the Academy, he became involved with a fellow cadet, Irina Galliulin,[2] who dropped out in 2201.[4] Chekov graduated from the Academy a year later, and his first assignment was to the Monoceros class scout U.S.S. Leo Minor NCC-614, as an assistant navigator.[4]

In 2205, Chekov transferred to the Saladin class destroyer U.S.S. Shaitan NCC-519 as a navigator.[4] In 2208, Chekov transferred again, to the Constitution class cruiser U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, as navigator.[3]
