Lieutenant David Bailey served as the navigator aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701,[1] succeeding the late Lieutenant Commander Gary Mitchell in the post after the latter's death on Stardate 1313.8.[2] On Stardate 1512.1, Bailey was temporarily relieved of duty during an encounter with the First Federation Starship Fesarius, but was allowed to resume his duties in time to help resolve the crisis. Once peaceful contact was established with Balok, the commander of the Fesarius, Bailey volunteered to remain aboard the First Federation vessel as an unofficial ambassador from the United Federation of Planets.[1]
