M. Leigh Hudec as Number One (TOS 00)
Born 23 February 1932
Died 18 December 2008

Majel Barrett Roddenberry, known as the "First Lady of Trek," was born on 23 February 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio, as Majel Leigh Hudec. While her role as Number One was removed from the series at the urging of NBC studio executives, Majel returned in the recurring role of Christine Chapel and as the voice of the Enterprise computer once the series went into production. During casting for the first season of Star Trek, Majel changed her last name from Hudec to Barrett. After the series was canceled, she joined Gene Roddenberry on a trip to Japan, where they were married on 6 August 1969; however, his divorce had not yet finalized, and they were married again in a civil ceremony in the United States on 29 December 1969. Majel Barrett Roddenberry is the mother of Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry. She died on 18 December 2008, at the age of 76, of leukemia.
