• The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 ends its Five Year Mission under Captain James T. Kirk, and enters spacedock for an extensive refit. ("Q2" VOY 265, Star Trek: The Motion Picture)

• The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 completes its refit just in time to counter a threat to Earth when V'Ger appears. (Star Trek: The Motion Picture)

• The Genesis Planet is formed when Khan Noonien Singh tries to use the Genesis Device as a weapon against Admiral James T. Kirk. Spock sacrifices his own life to save his shipmates. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

• Spock is resurrected by the Genesis effect. The Enterprise is destroyed during the attempt to recover his reanimated body from the Genesis Planet. (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock)

• The former Enterprise crew travels back in time to collect a pair of Humpback Whales, in an effort to rescue Earth from a probe of unknown origin. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

• In recognition for their efforts in saving Earth once again, the crew is assigned to the newly commissioned U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-A. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
