Federation Ambassador Sarek was married to Amanda Grayson, a Human woman; they had a son, Spock. On Stardate 2258.42, a Romulan named Nero from an alternate future attacked Vulcan. Using Red Matter, Nero created an artificial black hole beneath the surface of the planet. Though Sarek escaped, thanks to the timely arrival of Spock and the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, Vulcan was destroyed, killing billions—including Amanda.[1]
