Stardate 5683.1: On Vedala, Kirk and Spock are summoned to learn about a stolen religious artifact that could ignite a galaxy-wide holy war.

The Vedala, the first race to venture out into space, summon the Enterprise — specifically, Kirk and Spock — to a rendezvous with other specialists to combat an imminent threat to the galaxy. Their mission: recover the stolen brainwave pattern of Alar, responsible for the transformation of the warlike Skorr into a peaceful people. Failure to recover the "Soul of Skorr" would result in a galaxy-wide holy war — a jihad. After tracking down the relic, Kirk and company learn that one of their number, a Skorr prince, is plotting against the group. The Vedala come to Kirk's aid, and the mission ends successfully.
