Prime Timeline
(The root of all realities)

Trelane was an incredibly powerful, albeit immature, noncorporeal lifeform. Studying Earth from a rogue planet he created, Gothos, he failed to account for the delay in the images he saw from the light traveling from Earth to Gothos, a difference of hundreds of light years.[1] When he encountered the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in 2267, he assumed Human form, called himself the "Squire of Gothos," and expected them to be like the "predators" he had been studying, but was disappointed in the reality he found. He was prevented from killing Captain Kirk by the intervention of his parents, who punished him for misbehaving.[2] After accidentally traveling back in time from 2381 to 2259, Ensign Beckett Mariner warned Ensign Brad Boimler not to say "Q," as "they haven't met him yet" and "they had kind of a Trelane thing going on."[3]

Notes and References

  1. In the episode, Gothos was said to be 900 light years from Earth, and the 18th century images Trelane saw were said to have taken 900 years to reach the planet. This would firmly place the original Star Trek series in the 27th century, were it not for several other episodes suggesting a 22nd or 23rd century setting. Stardates had been created to give a vague sense of "the future" without committing to any specific date, so references to the time in which the series was set were often contradictory, particularly during the first season.
