The Federation starship Gemini was the lead vessel of the Gemini class battleship, and was in service in the late 23rd century. The ship was part of a task force sent to intercept a Klingon fleet massing at the Caleb system in 2270. The resulting Battle of Caleb IV proved to be a disaster for the Federation: of the ten ships dispatched to confront the Klingons, only three survived. The NCC-1790 was destroyed in the battle, shortly after the Klingons revealed that they had developed new cloaking technologies.[1]
