Constitution class[1]

Construction on the Constitution class Starship Saratoga was authorized by the Starfleet Appropriation of Stardate 3220.[2] The Saratoga, constructed to Mark II specifications, was commissioned in May 2259, and in October 2262 was refit to Mark III specifications, then again in February 2270 to Mark IV specifications. The Saratoga was placed in an inactive reserve fleet in June 2278.[3]

Note

The registry listed for the Saratoga in the "Federation Ship Recognition Manual," NCC-1720, conflicts with that given in the "Star Fleet Technical Manual," NCC-1724, as well as that of the U.S.S. Lafayette NCC-1720, and must be disregarded. Additionally, a second Constitution class Starship Saratoga, with the same registry number, was listed in the "Federation Ship Recognition Manual," but that entry conflicted with the Miranda class U.S.S. Saratoga NCC-1937 seen in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and must also be disregarded.
