Prime Timeline
(The root of all realities)

Marriage was a compact with cultural significance that was often rooted in religion, between people to form a union in which they would spend their lives together. Married men were referred to as "husbands," and women as "wives." When the Talosians abducted Captain Christopher Pike in 2254, they sought to form a husband-wife relationship between him and Vina, in hopes they would start a family and begin a Human colony on Talos IV.[1] Gary Mitchell was so successful with his plot to distract his instructor at Starfleet Academy, Jim Kirk, that Kirk nearly married the "little blonde lab technician" that he maneuvered into a relationship with Kirk.[2] On Stardate 1329.1, Harry Mudd was engaged in a con where he served as a middle-man for arranged marriages between wealthy colonists and miners, and a trio of "wiving settlers," who were actually taking an illegal Venus drug to enhance their physical attributes. By the time his fraud was exposed, two of the three women had already been married via subspace radio.[3]
