The second of two planets orbiting Alpha Majoris, a red giant, Alpha Majoris II had no native corporeal life forms. The planet was the home of the Mellitus, a semi-intelligent plasma-based creature. Unlike the similar dikironium cloud creature of the Tycho system, however, the Mellitus was a docile creature. Settled by Humans shortly after the founding of the United Federation of Planets in 2087, by Reference Stardate 2/2306 (June 2223) the planet boasted a population of 5.5 billion, and was a full member of the Federation. Alpha Majoris II was also famous for its many rare and beautiful gems, which were prized throughout the galaxy for their purity and elegance.
