Also known by its chemical composition sodium chloride, salt was an essential nutrient for Human physiology, particularly in desert climates, and was also used in food preparation. The M-113 creature was particularly dependent upon the substance, and had evolved the ability to draw salt directly from another life form via suction cup-like appendages on its hands.[1]
