SFU Timeline
(Star Fleet Universe Games)

Actually, there is a kind of magic in a historical game. It's not the blatant kind: no thundering giants are summoned, no demons appear, and no dragons spit fire. Instead, it's the subtle magic of being transported across time to stand in another man's shoes.

It was 1983 and Nexus #5 had just been released. It focused this time on historical boardgames, starting with an interview with Keith Poulter. There were reviews of Broadsides and Boarding Parties, Warsaw Pact, and Armor at Kursk. One article focused on Battlewagon. Then there were two historical articles of interest to wargamers. One focused on naval ships; the other, on Gettysburg.

Of course there was the Star Fleet Universe section. This issue had SSDs of the Lyran Jaguar, Klingon D-7C, and Kzinti Command Cruiser. There was also a master weapons chart and a scenario. Richard Kerr also let people know how to make conversions to their Kzinti ships.

There was a new scenario for Boarding Party and an expansion for Operation Pegasus. There was also a look at the "new" Epyx/Automated Adventure line of games for the Apple II+, TRS-80, and Atari 400/800.

505.0 Border Incident

In Y160, the alliance between the Federation and the Gorn was three years old. To counter it, the Romulans entered into an agreement with the Klingons which resulted in the delivery of several K7R class (converted D-7 class) and K5R class (converted F-5 class) ships. The first of these ships were in service with operational units late that year, when the Romulans created an incident designed to test their new ships in battle — a battle loaded heavily in their favor. An old Warbird class ship attacked a Federation outpost, then fled into the Neutral Zone and drew a Constitution class ship after it. The new K7R-class Proconsul and K5R-class Tribune were waiting in ambush, and the first test of these new ships seemed well under control. Unfortunately, the test did not go according to plan.
