"Dunsel" was a term used by midshipmen at Starfleet Academy in the 23rd century, and referred to "a part which serves no useful purpose." Following the initial successful tests of the M-5 computer, Commodore Wesley referred to Captain Kirk as "Captain Dunsel."[1]
