Captain Kalena Hoku, a Human woman, was the commanding officer of the U.S.S. Mjolnir. Jeanette Chao and Prynn Tenmei served aboard the Mjolnir under Captain Hoku, a native Hawaiian, who tried to teach the junior officers how to surf on the ship's holodeck. "He'e nalu," or "wave sliding," came easily enough to Tenmei, but Chao never mastered the sport.[1]
