Microtape data cartridges were compact data storage devices, and were commonly used in the late 23rd century. After crashing on Thasus as a young child, Charlie Evans was the only survivor and had "just a few microtapes to learn from."[1] The cartridges, as seen in the original Star Trek, bore a striking similarity to the 3.5" floppy disks developed in the 1980s.[2]
