Veril was a Reman colonist on Crateris; she lived near the communications tower on the outskirts of the colony with her father, Zden. When the Tal Shiar and the Elachi attacked the colony in 2409, Zden helped the crew of a Romulan Republic ship to organize an evacuation. Zden went in a separate shuttlecraft with another colonist, Slamek, to search for survivors, while Veril went with the Republic crew to the safety of their vessel. Zden led a convoy of shuttles to a beacon in orbit, where they planned to renezvous with the Republic vessel and travel to safety, but the convoy was set upon by an Elachi ship, and everyone aboard the shuttles was abducted. Although the Remans as a whole declined an offer to join the Romulan Republic's fleet for mutual self-defense, Veril elected to remain aboard the Republic vessel, joining its crew as an engineer.[1]
