Cyrano Jones was an independent trader in the 23rd century. In 2256, his ship, the S.S. Fortuna, was set upon by Klingon forces led by J'Ula, the matriarch of House Mo'Kai.[1] The Klingons forced Jones to send out a false distress signal,[2] luring a nearby Starfleet vessel, a Malachowski class ship on a cadet training cruise, into a trap.[1] After fending off Klingon boarding parties, the Starfleet ship helped Jones repair the damage to the Fortuna, and he fled the area before hostilities resumed.[2] In 2268, Jones attempted to sell tribbles as pets on Station K-7, but the animals soon overwhelmed the station and the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701. When an incident with the Klingons at the station was resolved, Jones was forced by Enterprise Captain James T. Kirk to remain on K-7 until he was able to help remove the infestation.[3] By 2270, in his desperation to remove the tribbles, Jones stole a genetically-modified tribble predator — a glommer — from the Klingons, and the Enterprise was forced to intervene on his behalf.[4]
