Etana, who had served as a field medic for her Resistance cell during the Bajoran Occupation, initially served as a sergeant in the Bajoran Militia, which brought her to Deep Space 9. There, she met Nurse Krissten Richter, and decided to take up a career in nursing in order for the two to spend more time together, and the pair later married.[1]
