A physical examination, often referred to simply as a physical, was a comprehensive examination by a physician to determine the state of an individual's overall health. Doctor McCoy had great difficulty getting Captain Kirk to complete his physical, due to the captain's busy schedule, and on Stardate 1512.2 resorted to concealing a red alert from Kirk's notice until he could complete the examination, much to Kirk's irritation.[1]
