David McCoy was the father of Leonard McCoy.[1] McCoy suffered from a rare and fatal illness, and he begged his son, a doctor, to take him off of life support. Leonard acquiesced, only for a cure to be found not long thereafter; the decision would haunt Leonard for the rest of his life.[2]
