Wayne Sheppard was the first mate aboard the freighter Xhosa under Kasidy Yates. After the birth of Yates' daughter, Rebecca Sisko, Sheppard took over the actual day-to-day running of the ship while Yates raised her child. Sheppard was killed in 2383 when the Xhosa was destroyed by a Tzenkethi vessel.[ 1 ]
