The Hermes class scout was authorized for production on Stardate 0965,^[1] and entered service on Stardate 2242.12 (December 2242).^[2] An increased emphasis on larger survey vessels, as well as manufacturing delays, curtailed production, and only 15 scouts were built.^[2]

These vessels were initially authorized for production as Hermes class scouts on Stardates 3669 and 5099,^[1] but were not completed.^[2]
