In antiquity, the Beta Portilin system was devastated by the neural parasites, and may have been the first place targeted.[1][2]

  1. Roddenberry, Gene (Executive Producer). "Operation -- Annihilate!." Star Trek, Season 1, Episode 29 (Production 29). Directed by Herschel Daugherty. Written by Steven W. Carabatsos. Desilu Productions, 13 April 1967.
  2. In the novelization by James Blish, Beta Portilin was instead called the "Orion complex," and was revealed to be the homeworld of the neural parasites and the site of a collective intelligence that controlled all of the offworld parasites; the species was eradicated when the Enterprise destroyed the planet in an orbital bombardment.
