First contact by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in 2196 was disastrous, and resulted in three dead and seven wounded among the Enterprise contact team.[2] Known to the natives as "Aulia," Rigel VII shares an orbit with its sister planet, Sirk (Rigel VI).[1] Aulia, a large Class M world, was inhabited by a belligerent neanderthaloid race called the Kalar,[2] which had a population of about 10,000 and rated about D+ on the Richter Scale of Cultures.[1]
