Lying near the Organian Treaty Zone, Aplithin was one of the more distant members of the United Federation of Planets. This Class K planet was noteworthy as the home of an intelligent species of avians, bipedal creatures standing about two-and-a-half meters tall with a feathery wingspan of more than five meters. The world's low gravity and tenuous atmosphere gave the inhabitants the power of controlled flight. Not surprisingly, Aplithinian cultural centers were located in the mountain ranges of the northern hemisphere. Since their contact with the Federation in the early 22nd century, Aplithin became a full UFP member and supported a large Federation research installation. Aplithin was home to 2.75 billion Archanians, and the planet's major economic concerns included shipbuilding, trade, and a Star Fleet support facility.[1]
