While on duty in main engineering, Lieutenant Kevin Riley requested that Lieutenant Uhura sing a song to him from the rec room via the ship's communications network. Uhura performed "Beyond Antares," and everyone in the rec room stopped to listen as well.[1] Uhura sang the song once again while on the bridge, but was interrupted by Nomad. The artificial lifeform found Uhura's mind to be disordered and illogical, and erased her memories.[2] The music was written by Wilbur Hatch, with lyrics by Gene L. Coon.[3]
