The Romulan Star Empire's Firehawk was the heavy cruiser answer to the Sparrowhawk class light cruiser. While the ship was not modular like the Sparrowhawk, it could be built with modules that were permanently put into place during construction. This led to a number of variant classes, including the Novahawk class command cruiser, Regalhawk class heavy cruiser, Royalhawk class command cruiser, and Killerhawk class super heavy cruiser.

The Firehawk (FHA) class was commissioned in 2280; it featured a crew complement of 400, a capacity of ten shuttlecraft, and was equipped with two science labs, three transporters, and two tractor beam emitters. The FHA was armed with four torpedo tubes — two for Type-S plasma torpedoes and two for Type-F — as well as five banks of Type-1 phasers and three banks of Type-3 phasers. The FHA remained in service until 2299, when it was superseded by the FHK refit, introduced in 2287. The FHK increased its phaser armaments to seven banks of Type-1 and four banks of Type-3.[1]
