Gwyndala[1] — or Gwyn, as she preferred to be called — was the daughter of The Diviner, and enjoyed a special place of privilege on Tars Lamora as a result. Despite this, Dal R'El pointed out that she was just as much a prisoner as he was, unable to leave to see the stars like she dreamed. According to her father, they were the last two people of their species. Gwyn was extremely intelligent, and was able to speak numerous languages;[2] she was proficient in starship mechanics, linguistics, and information technology — all skills taught to her by her father[1] during his search for the U.S.S. Protostar NX-76884, a derelict Starfleet ship that the Diviner had sought[2] for nearly twenty years.[3] The Diviner apparently had hoped to use those skills to gain control of the vessel,[1] and had Gwyn created from his own genetic material on Stardate 43929, in order to carry out his mission should his health fail before he could find the Protostar.[3]

When Dal and his companions discovered the Protostar, they took Gwyn captive in order to ensure their escape.[2] Gwyn tried to escape on multiple occasions,[4] ultimately seizing control of the Protostar while the others were away from the ship. She contacted her father, hoping to curry his favor by presenting the ship to him as a prize.[1] When he arrived, however, the Diviner rejected Gwyn, leaving her to certain death on a hostile planet in order to claim the ship. The ship proved to be an illusion, however, and Gwyn was saved by Dal and the others in the real Protostar.[5]
