- 16 December: The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 arrive from Stardate 8390 in a captured Klingon Bird-of-Prey, which they renamed the H.M.S. Bounty. To enable communication with an alien probe in the future, they have come to retrieve humpback whales in "an attempt to repopulate the species." They rescue a pair of humpbacks, George and Gracie, from a whaling ship shortly after their release from the Cetacean Institute in San Francisco, and their former caretaker, Dr. Gillian Taylor, stows aboard the ship before its return to the future.[1]
