Stardate 41601.3: A strange entity threatens the crew

Counselor Troi and her shuttle pilot, Lieutenant Prieto, are pulled off course. They crash on Vagra II, the home of a sadistic being named Armus, who was created from the cast-off sins of his race before they abandoned him. An away team beams down to rescue the counselor, but Armus creates a forcefield around the shuttle and blocks their way. Acting out of sheer malice, the creature tortures Riker, taunts La Forge and Data, and kills Yar.

Worf, who is now acting security chief, discovers with Wesley Crusher that Armus loses power when it is provoked. Using that weakness, Picard is finally able to retrieve his people, but not before trying to reason with Armus one final time. Picard then orders the shuttle wreckage be destroyed, to prevent any chance of Armus being able to leave the planet. Aboard the Enterprise, the senior staff view a holographic recording of Yar's will and her last thoughts to her friends.
