The culmination of an ambitious, 14-year design process, the Federation starship Galaxy, the prototype vessel[1] of the Galaxy class,[3] was commissioned in 2356;[4] its first test flight was some time after 5 May 2356, when, still unnamed, it first existed as a flyable space vessel.[1] In 2374, the Galaxy fought in the Battle of Chin'toka during the Dominion War.[2]
