The Lyran Cheetah class, introduced circa 2250, had plenty of firepower for a ship of its size, but that same size rendered it unfit for service iin the heavy battles that followed its introduction. The spaceframe was modified to create the Alleycat class war destroyer variant nearly two decades later.

The Cheetah class FF-variant featured a crew complement of 180, a capacity of four [[shuttlecraft], and was equipped with one science lab, one transporter, two tractor beam emitters, and two mech tractors. The class was armed with an Expanding Sphere Generator, two banks of Type-1 disruptors, two banks of Type-2 phasers, and four banks of Type-3 phasers. The FF remained in service until 2279, when it was superseded by the FF+ refit, introduced in 2267. The FF+ had slightly stronger shields, and remained in service until 2291, when it was superseded by the FFP refit, introduced in 2285. The FFP reworked its armaments, with an Expanding Sphere Generator, two banks of Type-1 disruptors, four banks of Type-2 phasers, and two banks of Type-3 phasers. The FFP remained in service until 2297.

The Cheetah class also saw service as a military police ship, with both MP and MP+ variants entering service circa 2250. The MP featured a crew complement of 180, a four-shuttle capacity, and was equipped with two science labs, two transporters, and one tractor beam emitter; it was armed with one bank of Type-1 disruptors and four banks of Type-2 phasers. The MP+ was enhanced with command and control facilities, and added two banks of Type-3 phasers to its armaments.

Other variants of the class included the Alleycat class war destroyer and the Snow Leopard class war destroyer leader.[1]
