A Class M planet, Taurus II was first discovered by the so-called "Galileo Seven,"[1] a scientific survey party sent out from the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 in the Shuttlecraft Galileo NCC-1701/7 on Stardate 2821.5 to study the Murasaki 312[2] nebula, a quasar-like phenomenon of scientific interest. The shuttle crashed on the planet, and several members of the crew did not survive their encounters with the native Taureans, an enormous hominid species[2] in the late Stone Age period of anthropological development.[3] The planet had a very thin atmosphere, with the air pressure reading at only 70 mmHg, or 9.33kPa. (standard atmospheric pressure is 101.325kPa) The atmosphere also contained an appreciable amount of nitrogen, as well as trace amounts of argon, neon, and krypton.[2]
Surface of Taurus II (STO: "Bull by the Horns")
Three years later, on Stardate 6147.4, a science vessel studying the nebula crashed on the surface[1] after it was attacked by Klingon forces led by Captain Kor.[3] Only four members of the scientific team survived: doctors Grogan and Muller[4] and researchers Duncan and Halleck. While other members of the ship's complement had survived the crash, all but those four of the crash survivors were killed by the Taureans.[3]
