Mutation was the condition when an individual or a group within a species developed altered traits, which could be passed along to their offspring as part of the process of evolution. On Stardate 1312.2, Lieutenant Commander Gary Mitchell and Doctor Elizabeth Dehner of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 were mutated upon contact with the Galactic Barrier, endowing them with godlike abilities.[1]
