The Gorn Confederation's Grendel class dreadnought (DN), constructed in response to the Romulan Star Empire's Condor class dreadnought, first entered service in 2279 and was one of the most powerful ships ever launched. The class had a crew complement of 600, and could carry up to sixteen shuttlecraft, had four transporters, and three tractor beam emitters. It featured three launchers for both Type-R and Type-S plasma torpedoes, and Type-1 phasers. The DN variant remained in service until all DN models had been refit to DNF in 2299.
Two variants were introduced in 2290: the DNF-type dreadnought and the BB-type battleship. The DNF followed many of the same specifications as the original DN, and added an additional torpedo launcher and Type-F plasma torpedoes, as well as both Type-1 and Type-3 phasers. The BB had even stronger shields, a crew complement of 840, could carry up to twenty shuttlecraft, and boasted seven transporters, four tractor beam emitters, seven torpedo launchers with Type-R, S and F plasma torpedoes, and both Type-1 and 3 phasers. The Gorn engineers encountered prolems with producing a stable warp engine large enough to propel the monstrous BB variant.
The final variant, the DNH-type dreadnought, was introduced in 2300. The DNH was similar to previous dreadnought variants, but had a crew complement of 660, seven transporters, and four tractor beam emitters like the BB type. It had five torpedo launchers, and carried Type-R, S and F plasma torpedoes and had both Type-1 and 3 phasers. Like the majority of heavy dreadnoughts, however, the hull could not support additional heavy weapons beyond those of the DNF variant, though the additional phasers were a welcome improvement.[1]
