Myriad Universes: combadge
A combadge was a compact communicator that could worn as a piece of jewelry[1] or as part of a uniform,[2] and could be activated with a tap.[1] Starfleet combadges also incorporated universal translator technology, as well as tracking hardware to enable rapid location of personnel on and off of a ship.[2] Combadges were used by Section 31[3] as early as 2256,[4] but did not enter widespread Starfleet use until at least 2344.[5] The Scalosians used combadges when first contact was made in 2269.[1]
