A tri-ox compound was a medication that increased the oxygenation of a patient's blood, to aid in thin atmospheres, such as on Vulcan. Dr. McCoy claimed that he was giving a tri-ox compound to Captain Kirk, but it was a ruse to give him a neural paralyzer to fake the captain's death.[1]
