Iridium, element 77, was discovered in England and France on Earth in 1804.[1] In 2262, Captain R.M. Merik sent a landing party to 892 IV to search for iridium in order to affect repairs after the S.S. Beagle suffered catastrophic damage from a meteor impact.[2]
