The culmination of an ambitious, 14-year design process, the Federation starship Galaxy, the prototype vessel of the Galaxy class, was commissioned in 2357; its first test flight was some time after 5 May 2356, when, still unnamed, it first existed as a flyable space vessel.[2] In 2374, the Galaxy fought in the Battle of Chin'toka during the Dominion War.[3]
