A student of Ambassador Spock in the Romulan unification movement,[1] D'Tan rose to become a leader of the Unificationists, and in 2409, he oversaw the formation of the Romulan Republic, which was comprised of worlds that split off from the Romulan Star Empire after the destruction of Romulus. The Republic was formally recognized by both the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire soon thereafter.[2]
