Murasaki 242, one of several stellar bodies in the Orion Sector, contained a protonebula that was of interest to both the science division of Starfleet and to the Tholian Assembly. In 2268, a Tholian colony fleet was attacked by Na'kuhl time travelers who hoped to spark a conflict between the Assembly and the United Federation of Planets. The U.S.S. Defiant NCC-1764 and a time-traveling U.S.S. Pioneer NCC-1500 came to the Tholians' aid, and though they were unable to prevent the fleet's destruction, they did manage to avert a war. The Defiant was heavily damaged in the engagement, and trapped in a trans-dimensional interphase[1] that killed the entire crew[2] before transporting the ship to 2155 in the Mirror Universe.[3]
