The Murasaki 312 nebula[1] was a quasar-like phenomenon[2] located in the Celes Sector of the Beta Quadrant.[3] The nebula was first explored in 2267 by the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701,[2] and a shuttle with a science team aboard — later nicknamed the Galileo Seven[1] — sent to study the so-called "Murasaki Effect" was forced to crash-land on Taurus II, a planet in one of the star systems within the nebula, by unexpected interference with the shuttle's systems caused by the nebula's radiation. There, they discovered an indigenous hominid population[2] in a late Stone Age period of anthropological development.[4]
Murasaki 312 (STO: "The Taurean Affair")
A science vessel was sent to further study the phenomenon several years later, but it was attacked by Klingon forces led by Captain Kor.[4] Between the crash landing on Taurus II[5] and predation by the Taureans, only four people survived for rescue by the U.S.S. Pioneer NCC-1500 on Stardate 6147.4.[4] The Pioneer and the Enterprise drove off the Klingon forces soon thereafter.[6]
