Makeup was typically used to alter one's appearance for cosmetic purposes. When Captain James T. Kirk was split in a transporter accident, one of the duplicates, who embodied the captain's id, attempted to force himself on Yeoman Janice Rand. She scratched his face, causing him to flee, and he used makeup in an attempt to look more like the other Kirk, who embodied his ego.[1]
