plasma torpedo
From Trekipedia
First developed in 2266, the plasma torpedo was a powerful torpedo weapon system employed by the Romulan Star Empire, capable of pursuing a target even at warp speeds — though its usefulness in starship combat was limited, as a prepared enemy could potentially outrun a torpedo until its energy dissipated. Upon impact, a plasma torpedo enveloped its target with plasma energy, causing an implosion effect upon its mass. The weapon was so powerful, it could render even rodinium — the strongest material known to Federation science at the time — into a brittle structure. The weapon had one serious drawback, however, in that it took a significant amount of time to charge between uses; it was nevertheless a devastating first-strike weapon.[1]
